About Us

BCA is a team of passionate scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs. We bring healthy skepticism, technical expertise, and a commercialization-first mindset to every engagement.

In an industry full of big claims and unvalidated technologies, we cut through the noise to focus on innovations that are technically credible, commercially meaningful, and truly impactful.

Ron Blutrich headshot

Ron Blutrich
Co-Founder and CEO

Hon. BSc. Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, UBC

Ron Blutrich headshot

Ron studied in the Molecular Genetics PhD program at the University of Toronto between 2017–2022, specializing in computational biology, statistics, and proteomics. After his personal experience with waterborne disease caused by Entamoeba histolytica, he took a health leave from his studies and began researching waterborne microbiological risks. Read a summary of Ron's research here.

In 2023, Ron co-founded Clear Inc., a company specializing in the application of UV water treatment technology for real estate. As CEO, he built a team of scientists and engineers passionate about water quality and developed the commercial case for centralized UV purification systems in residential applications. As head of Sales, he penetrated novel markets, achieved profitability in under 2 years with a $15M pipeline, and secured long-term growth by closing the largest multifamily portfolios in the US.

At BCA, Ron advises on business development, sales operations, and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Denise Rebello headshot

Denise Rebello, PhD.
Co-Founder and Chief Scientist

Hon. BSc. Molecular Biology, MAC
PhD. Molecular Genetics, U of T
ASSE Legionella Water Safety & Management Specialist

Dr. Denise Rebello headshot

In 2024, Denise became the Director of Science and Head of Marketing for Clear Inc. With expertise in technical communication, she developed a science-focused professional brand for the company, bridging the gap between data and marketing. In a scientific capacity, she designed comprehensive water-testing and validation protocols for both chemical and biological parameters, collating data across dozens of projects; developing case studies, publications, and educational materials. Denise is an ASSE-certified Legionella Water Safety and Management Specialist, and has written water safety management plans to protect vulnerable communities from Legionella infections.

At BCA, Denise advises on scientific integrity, technical communication, validation, and marketing strategy.

Dr. Paul Nyangaresi headshot

Paul Onkundi Nyangaresi, PhD.,
Principal Engineer

MSc. Electronics and Instrumentation, KU
PhD. Electronic Science and Technology, XMU
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, UBC
Research Associate, UBC

Dr. Paul Nyangaresi headshot

Paul is an environmental engineer specializing in the design, fabrication, and validation of UV and UV-LED disinfection systems for water and wastewater applications. During his postdoctoral training with Dr. Sara Beck, he took a first-of-its-kind UV-LED rainwater disinfection system from concept through fabrication to field deployment, earning a Mitacs Innovation Award and recognition from the International Ultraviolet Association.

Paul's expertise spans semiconductor optoelectronics and applied water microbiology, including UV emitter design, flow-through reactor engineering, and microbial validation protocols. His research addresses microbial inactivation efficacy and energy consumption, pulsed versus continuous LED operation, and photolytic versus photocatalytic treatment.

At BCA, Paul advises on technical due diligence, product validation, and application engineering.

Dr. Ted Mao headshot

Ted Mao, PhD.
Industry Advisor

PhD. Chemical Engineering, U of T
Adjunct Professor, U of T

Dr. Ted Mao headshot

Ted is a seasoned technology leader with a track record of turning innovation into impact, and brings deep expertise in scaling technology from lab to market. He was Vice President, Research and Chief Technology Officer for 14 years at Trojan Technologies (Danaher, S&P 100), one of the largest UV water treatment companies in the world. He is also an executive board member and was the President of the International UV Association.

Ted has led the formation of a world-class research team, helped develop innovative UV and water treatment technologies, and successfully built a global network of external collaboration partners. Prior to joining Trojan, Ted held leadership and technical positions at ABB and RWDI Inc. Ted is a highly sought after international speaker and an active organizer of international conferences and workshops. He served on Research Review Panels of US EPA, Canadian NSERC, and Ontario MRI.

At BCA, Ted leverages his depth of experience in the water industry to guide early-stage innovators with technology development and commercialization.
